Things To Do
If you’re making a trip of it (and we hope you do!), Alicante has so much to offer, from rich history to beautiful beaches, fantastic food, and plenty of shopping. Here are some of our favourite highlights:
1. Explore the Old Town
& Santa Bárbara Castle
Wander through the charming narrow streets of Alicante’s Old Town (El Barrio), filled with colourful houses, hidden squares, and lively cafés. Don’t miss a visit to Santa Bárbara Castle, perched high on Mount Benacantil, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea.
2. Sun, Sea & Shopping
The Explanada de España, lined with palm trees and wave-pattern mosaics, is perfect for a seaside stroll. For beach lovers, Playa del Postiguet is right in the city. If shopping is more your thing, Alicante has Plaza Mar 2 and Gran Vía Shopping Centre. A little further out, La Zenia Boulevard near Orihuela Costa is the region’s largest open-air mall.
3. Torrevieja’s Coastal Charm
Just down the coast, Torrevieja is known for its beautiful beaches, lively promenade,
and unique pink salt lakes, which look magical at sunset. It’s a lovely spot for a day trip
if you want a mix of nature and seaside town vibes.
4. Taste Alicante’s Flavours
Alicante is a food lover’s paradise. Try the region’s famous paella, fresh seafood, and sweet turrón (a traditional nougat treat). Pair it all with a glass of local Alicante wine for the full experience. For an authentic evening, explore the tapas bars around the Old Town.
5. Stay Close to the Venue
If you’d prefer not to wander too far from our wedding venue and stick in Elche, it is a beautiful small city, famous for its endless palm groves (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and packed with historic charm. There is plenty of shopping, good food and beaches to explore.
